LAST SUNDAY’S midday mass was a very special celebration for seven teachers and the caretaker of St. Fergal’s National School.

The mass marked the retirement of the staff and was an acknowledgement from the parish of the hard work and service given by them over many years.

Students from both St. Fergal’s Junior and Senior Schools presented the teachers and Oliver Lowe the care-taker with a small gift from the parish.

This year will see the retirement of Margaret Gillespie, Teresa Thompson, Mick Lyons, Anne Lacey, Sheila Grace, Catherine Dilleen and Agnes Behan who is taking up the post of principal at a school in Avoca.

Care-taker Oliver Lowe served the school for almost 20 years and his great character proved to be well liked by all the staff and children who attended the school.
