Chess team scores impressive victory
BRAY-GREYSTONES Chess Club had a spectacular 5- 3 victory over reigning Irish Champions Phibsboro last Monday.
The key moment came when Bray player Colm Daly defeated his fellow Irish International Stephen Brady.
This was a great win for Daly as it was the first league match Brady had lost in five seasons.
On Sunday October 12 the Esplanade Hotel played host to two youth tournaments where Bray were again victorious.
In the under 12 section Bray player Leo Kurevlov took first place ahead of East Coast under 12 Champion Peter Cooke, with John Foley from Booterstown in 3rd.
In the under 18 section Loreto College woman Aoife Ledwidge O’Brien of Bray emerged champion ahead of former Ireland under 16 International Kyle Stokes of Greystones and Brendan Tecklenborg of Dun Laoghaire in 3rd place.
The youth section is delighted to announce the Greystones Chess Academy is now sold out, but youth enquiries can still be made to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Greystones Chess Academy Head Coach Stephen Stokes has also been appointed manager of the Leinster under 19’s for the coming season.
The Wicklow Secondary Schools Chess Championships will take place on Wednesday October 29 in the Bray-Greystones Chess Club.
With numerous cash prizes on offer the competition is expected to be fiercely contested.
Meanwhile Bray will host the 2009 Leinster Junior Chess Championships in early January.
