Kilcoole keep their Intermediate status
Kilcoole 1-11, Valleymount 27: A great late rally by Kilcoole which yielded four points in the closing minutes was enough to save their Intermediate status for another year.
Luckless Valleymount led all the way except where it counted most – at the finishing line.
The wind was a factor, but not a big one in this game as it was partly a cross field wind.
Valleymount got off to a good start with a point by Jimmy Fitzpatrick and when midfielder Stephen Byrne got the first goal of the match they led by 1-2 to nil.
At half-time the Lakesiders were in front by 1-4 to 0-2.
Kilcoole improved a bit on the restart but Valleymount were still well in control at the three quarter stage.
Kilcoole’s goal came in the 20th minute and was a rather sloppy affair that was finished off by Darragh Keddy. However, they all count and this one was enough to finally arouse Kilcoole from their slumbers.
Ronan Keddy, who had played a great game for the Ireland U-21 team in the Shinty international at Nowlan Park on Saturday kicked over two mighty left-footed frees to level the game and Richy Gammell sent over the winner from the other wing deep in injury-time.
