EDDIE LEONARD from St. Patrick’s has been given the whistle for Sunday’s Senior hurling final between champions Glenealy and challengers Carnew.

Eddie started refereeing back in 1984 and he is one of the county’s most experienced hurling referees.

This will be his third time to take charge of the Senior final and he will be well acquainted with Sunday’s contestants as Carnew and Glenealy were also the pairing when he refereed the finals of 2003 and 2005.

Eddie has refereed at all levels in the county, hurling and football, including taking charge of a number of Intermediate finals as well.

A staunch member of the St. Patrick’s Club he is a member of the finance committee while his wife Veronica is involved in St. Patrick’s ladies football.

He has been secretary of Bord na nOg for the last three years and, together with Pat Mitchell, he has played a huge part in raising the profile of juvenile games and competitions in the county.

A Monaghan native with associations with Castleblayney Faughs, he has given great allegiance to the G.A.A. in Wicklow since coming to the county. He works for AXA Insurance in Dublin.
