Char­ity quiz raises €1,665 to boost In­dian trip funds

THE MARTELLO played host to a very suc­cess­ful char­ity ta­ble quiz last Thurs­day night.

Holy Redeemer parish­ioner Joan De­laney McMa­hon held the event to raise money for a vol­un­teer trip to In­dia.

Joan and a group of 11 peo­ple will be mak­ing the trip to visit and help Fa­ther Se­bas­tian Matis with his work in West Ben­gal in In­dia.

On Thurs­day night the nail-bit­ing ta­ble quiz raised €1, 665, which will go to­wards the €33,000 needed to send all the vol­un­teers.

Once in In­dia the group hope to give Fa­ther Se­bas­tian €2,000 to go to­wards the build­ing of schools in the re­gion.

Quiz­mas­ter Michael Noble en­ter- tained the crowd for the evening and de­liv­ered some tough ques­tions for the con­tes­tants to an­swer.

The group will be head­ing off on their vol­un­teer trip on Jan­uary 17.

‘I feel that I have been very lucky in life and this is some­thing I re­ally want to do and I want to now give some­thing back,’ said Joan about her trip.

Joan would like to thank all those who helped with the evening in­clud­ing Bob and Chris­tine Galvin and Der­mot de Barra and of course the quiz mas­ter Michael.

She would also like to thank all those who do­nated prizes and the Martello for hold­ing the quiz free of charge.

At the char­ity ta­ble quiz in the Martello were Ciaran Me­gan­nety, Dave Whe­lan, Anne Grebben, Fr Em­manuel Makalo, Linda Greene and Su­san Whe­lan.
