Writers welcome to join new group

Bray People - - Bray People -

WRITERS, be they hoping for the success of JK Rowling herself or happy to scribble down a few lines once in a while, are welcome to come along to a writer’s group at Greystones library every second Thursday, with the next one on November 30 at 7 p.m.

A small group of local people, including Sally Koornneef, got talking about how much they would like to start up a writer’s group and did so a year ago.

They recently decided to recruit more members, and after putting notices in the paper and on noticeboards they were contacted by another group that had been operating in members’ homes around the town for several years. The two groups have now joined forces.

The library is a very fitting location for the task, they feel, and the members range from published, experienced writers to complete beginners.

After meeting at 7, they start with an exercise. Someone will call out a line, like ‘I hear glass breaking,’ and everyone writes for ten minutes in whichever medium they choose. Some members stick to traditional pen and paper, while others bring along their laptops, preferring to type. Those who wish to read their work then do so.

‘We are focused but very friendly and everyone is welcome to come along,’ said Sally.
