Soc­cer leg­end Packie on hand to present White Flag Awards 2008

THREE County Wick­low leisure fa­cil­i­ties have re­ceived the White Flag Award 2008 from the In­dus­try for Sports, Fit­ness, Aquatic Fa­cil­i­ties, Out­door, Spas and Well­ness (ILAM).

The flag awards are the only com­pre­hen­sive qual­ity award for leisure fa­cil­i­ties in Ire­land and leg­endary for­mer Ir­ish goal­keep- er Packie Bon­ner pre­sented the awards at a gala cer­e­mony which was held in The Strand Ho­tel, Lim­er­ick.

It is the first time the Coral Leisure Cen­tres in Wick­low Town and Ark­low and the Bay Health and Leisure Club in the Ark­low Bay Ho­tel have been recog­nised by the ILAM.

The awards are now in their eight year of ex­is­tence and are de­signed to­wards sports halls, fit­ness stu­dios, health suites, spas, gyms and swim­ming pools.

Over 100 fa­cil­i­ties na­tion­wide made applications, with 102 of them even­tu­ally re­ceiv­ing the renowned white flag sta­tus.

The cri­te­ria that each fa­cil­ity must reach in­cudes the ex­te­rior and grounds, the train­ing and qual­i­fi­ca­tions, the dis­abil­ity ac­cess and the staff train­ing and their qual­i­fi­ca­tions.

Ea­monn Quigley, ILAM Pres­i­dent and RTE’s Michael Lys­ter also made pre­sen­ta­tions at the award cer­e­mony.
