‘SURE I’M guilty any­way,’ was the re­ply af­ter cau­tion from Colin O’Toole, 19 Roger Case­ment Park, Garda John Thomp­son told Bray District Court on Mon­day.

O’Toole, whom the court heard had been out drink­ing with his em­ployer when he de­cided to drive the boss’s car as he was less drunk.

He was fined €250 for drunken driv­ing and dis­qual­i­fied from driv­ing for one year. He was also fined €350 for no in­sur­ance and banned for two years and one day.

‘He doesn’t in fact drive,’ his so­lic­i­tor Con­way O’Hara told the court when asked if the ac­cused has a driv­ing li­cense. He was fined a fur­ther €100 for hav­ing no driv­ing li­cence and €250 for re­fus­ing to give his name to Gar­daí. Mr. O’Hara said that his client has a se­ri­ous al­co­hol ad­dic­tion and has ad­mit­ted to him­self for the first time that he has a prob­lem.
