The Under 11’s were the only team out of the club that saw action last weekend. They hosted Killeigh F.C. from the Midlands league in the national cup. Newtown started promisely enough and created a couple of half chances.
They should have taken the lead on 15 minutes when ‘Vova’ Ribakov spurned a chance when through on goal. Dillon Carthy also wasted another chance soon after and the home side was made to pay when on 25 minutes the away side took the lead when a shot from 25 yards nestled in the bottom right hand corner of Sean Carthy’s net.
It was nip and tuck in the opening exchanges of the second half and the killer second goal arrived on 40 minutes when Newtown lost possession in midfield, Killeigh countered attacked and one of their players finished at the back post. This made the home sides task even greater but time and time again their final ball let them down and it was no surprise when the away side added a third goal with 5 minutes remaining.
Newtown did get a consolation however when after Dillon Carthy was brought down in the box, Keith Dalton slotted home the resultant penalty. Final score: Newtown Juniors 1-3 Killeigh F.C.
