COISTE NA NÓG MINOR B FOOTBALL SHIELD
Rathnew 4- 8, An Tochar 1-4: From pillar to post there was no doubting that Rathnew were going to be the winners of this Minor football B Shield final played in glorious autumn sunshine at Newcastle on Monday.
Rathnew dominated proceedings from the start and they were ahead by 2-4 to 0-1 at half-time.
Their defence marshalled by John Manley, Sam O’Connor and captain and centre-back Seán Jameson had a firm grip on the game all the way through.
At midfield, the dominance of Jody Merrigan and Stuart Murphy ensured that the Rathnew forwards got plenty of quality ball which they used quite well.
Scorers for Rathnew were: Timmy Donovan (2-2), Philip Murphy (1- 4), Jody Merrigan (1-1), Edward Doyle (0-1).
For battling An Tochar: Brendan Kennedy ( 1- 2), Stuart Meaney ( 0- 1), and James Molloy (0-1).
After the game Pat Mitchell had the honour of presenting the Shield to his own club’s Seán Jameson, while the People Newspapers man of the match award was presented to Stuart Murphy by Eddie Leonard.
