Seniors show us how to party the night away
‘THEY COULD teach the young people a thing or two about how to enjoy themselves,’ said Anita Carroll, one of the organisers of the Senior Citizens’ Christmas party held last Saturday at St. Thomas’
As well as over 200 guests, many of whom were well in to their 70s, 80s and 90s and jiving and twisting the day away, the event was attended by some members of An Garda Siochána.
Chief Superintendent Tom Conway got up to sing a song and entertain the diners with his fine voice. Some of the guests also got up to sing as did Fr. Finbarr and Fr. Emmanuel from the Queen of Peace parish. Superintendent Michael Lernihan reportedly could not be persuaded to take the microphone, but did get around to every table for a chat with the delighted guests.
There was quite a bit of competition amongst the ladies as to who would get the next dance with the student gardaí, while Santa made an appearance and had his picture taken with a num- ber of the guests.
There were also volunteers there from St. Fergal’s Resource Centre, Little Bray Family Resource Centre, and the Order of Malta.
A number of local businesses supported the annual dinner, which was supposed to be a one-off event nine years ago and was so popular that they decided to keep it going. They donated either money, raffle prizes or their time on the day.
The meal was cooked by the staff of the kitchen in St. Thomas’, with chef Gavin Cassidy in charge of proceedings, while music was provided by Just Dandy, and Nicole Brown Robbie Green.
Nicole and Robbie were supposed to perform for just one hour and stayed for over two, with Nicole saying it was one of the most enjoyable gigs they had ever done.
Everyone had a fantastic time and they are all looking forward to next year and the tenth anniversary party, which is expected to be extra special.
