ANOTHER fascinating edition of ‘A Pictorial History of Bray, Co. Wicklow,’ by Henry Cairns and Owen Gallagher, was launched at Bray Town Hall last Friday night.

About 100 people came along to celebrate the sixth edition of the intriguing collection of pictures compiled by the two local men, both of whom are members of the Bray Historical society.

Professor Daithi O Hogain of UCD launched the event, with plenty of people swapping stories afterwards and flicking through the photographs, spanning 1860 to 1960.

When

Owen

and Henry began compiling pictures in 2003, they received over 10,000 submissions and have to date only used 5,000 of those!

‘We only intended to do three volumes and now we’re on six we could actually keep going,’ said Owen, who said they are still getting pictures sent to them from all over Bray and indeed all over the world.

‘Our books get sent all over the world too,’ he added.

This year they have brought out a special hard-back box-set of all six books. Both the collection and the new edition on its own are available at the Town Hall Book Shop on Florence Road.
