Congratulations to all those who participated in the 2008 St. Gerard’s School Music Festival. The event was a tremendous success and showcases the broad array of talent we have in the school. The 35 acts, comprised of 60 participants, were instrumental in making the evening such an enjoyable experience. The prize winners were Sarah-Kate Fenelon (Instrumental), Eabha MacMahon and Andrew Hozier-Byrne (Voclaists) and Tom Cullen, Jack Brennan and Rory LaHart (Bands). A special word of thanks to our Music Department (Ms. Diane Owens, Ms. Paula Hillman, Ms. Ciara O’Connell and Mr. Cyrile Laurens) for their role in organising, hosting and judging the competition acts.

In a previous edition of this publication reference was made to the celebration of St. Gerard’s Day and the tremendous spirit and friendship we enjoy as part of the school community. We are delighted with the response to the sponsored Sugar Loaf Race, which is held on the day and raises funds for charity. This year the Race raised •9,063 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The proceeds will be used to purchase monitors for the A&E Unit of the Hospital. Thank you to everybody who supported this wonderful cause.
