The Autumn has been a busy one for the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of John Callan its president.
The autumn schedule began in September with a lecture from Rob Goodbody on ‘Ballycorus Chimney and the Surrounding Area’ and tonight (Wednesday) Rob will be giving a talk on ‘Milestones’ to the Rathmichael Historical Society in Rathmichael School on Stonebridge Road in Shankill and all are welcome to attend.
In October he Enniskerry History Society was the only one in North Wicklow/ South Dublin to hold a specific lecture to mark the 90th Anniversary of the RMS Leinster which was presented to it by James Scannell who also give a short talk about one of the Bray victims – 15 year old Gerald Palmer - to the Bray Cualann Historical Society later in the month.
Last month (November) Tim Carey, Heritage Office for the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council gave a talk on ‘The History of Mountjoy Gaol’.
Next week on Thursday December 11th, Brian White will be the guest speaker for the December meeting and will debut his brand new illustrated presentation ‘Hidden Secrets of the Dargle Valley’ in which he will reveal several unknown and interesting facts and about people, places and events associated with this part of Co. Wicklow for the first time.
This will be memorable night as Brian has provided lots of fascinating information about Enniskerry on past visits to the Society and will provide some more interesting facts about the area. This lecture will commence at 8.30pm in the A.O.H. Hall, Church Hill, Enniskerry, and all are welcome to attend.
John Callan is currently putting the finishing touches to the Enniskerry History Society’s 4-lecture Spring 2009 programme and hopes to be able to give details on the night.
