The Au­tumn has been a busy one for the En­niskerry His­tory So­ci­ety, which meets un­der the guid­ance of John Cal­lan its pres­i­dent.

The au­tumn sched­ule be­gan in Septem­ber with a lec­ture from Rob Good­body on ‘Bal­ly­corus Chim­ney and the Sur­round­ing Area’ and tonight (Wed­nes­day) Rob will be giv­ing a talk on ‘Mile­stones’ to the Rath­michael His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety in Rath­michael School on Stone­bridge Road in Shankill and all are wel­come to at­tend.

In Oc­to­ber he En­niskerry His­tory So­ci­ety was the only one in North Wick­low/ South Dublin to hold a spe­cific lec­ture to mark the 90th An­niver­sary of the RMS Le­in­ster which was pre­sented to it by James Scan­nell who also give a short talk about one of the Bray vic­tims – 15 year old Ger­ald Palmer - to the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety later in the month.

Last month (Novem­ber) Tim Carey, Her­itage Of­fice for the Dun Laoghaire Rath­down County Coun­cil gave a talk on ‘The His­tory of Moun­tjoy Gaol’.

Next week on Thurs­day De­cem­ber 11th, Brian White will be the guest speaker for the De­cem­ber meet­ing and will de­but his brand new il­lus­trated pre­sen­ta­tion ‘Hid­den Se­crets of the Dar­gle Val­ley’ in which he will re­veal sev­eral un­known and in­ter­est­ing facts and about peo­ple, places and events as­so­ci­ated with this part of Co. Wick­low for the first time.

This will be mem­o­rable night as Brian has pro­vided lots of fas­ci­nat­ing in­for­ma­tion about En­niskerry on past vis­its to the So­ci­ety and will pro­vide some more in­ter­est­ing facts about the area. This lec­ture will com­mence at 8.30pm in the A.O.H. Hall, Church Hill, En­niskerry, and all are wel­come to at­tend.

John Cal­lan is cur­rently putting the fin­ish­ing touches to the En­niskerry His­tory So­ci­ety’s 4-lec­ture Spring 2009 pro­gramme and hopes to be able to give de­tails on the night.
