NEWTOWN UNITED FC

The first team were our only side in action last weekend as they travelled to take on Baldoyle United in the Leinster Junior Cup. The trip proved fruitless however as they went down to the Dublin outfit on a 6-1 scoreline. Terry Murphy scored the Newtown consolation.

The following are the fixtures for this weekend: 1st Team Away to Ashford Rovers KO Sunday at 2 p.m. 2nd Team Away to Arklow United KO Sunday at 11 a.m. Youth Team Home to Greystones KO Saturday at 2 p.m. (Fixture

JUNIORS NEWS

If it’s not rain it’s his good friend Mr. Frost that tries to play havoc with the fixtures, but thankfully all six games involving our teams were played resulting in 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats.

Our 8A team remain unbeaten this season much to the delight of co-managers Msrs. Magee and Turner after a hard fought 2-nil win at home to Arklow Town. Cian Walsh & Jack Doyle scored the goals in a good team display.

The 8B’s got back to winning ways with a 4-2 away win over Ashford Rovers. Daniel Testa notched three and Timothy Hamilton scored for the second successive week. Best for the B’s were Testa, Ben Moran and Ryan Smillie.

The 9’s completed their league programme with a narrow 1-nil defeat away to Wolfe Tone. Best for the 9’s were Aaron Toner, Sean Gregory & Adam Heffernan.

The 10’s drew 1-all away to Ardmore Rovers in a game they deserved to win. Ryan Taylor put Newtown in front when he blasted to the net from 10 yards after Ryan Clarke’s shot had been blocked.

The Ardmore equaliser had a touch of controversy about it as goalie Sean Carthy felt the ball was kicked from his hands before been scored. They say these decisions even themselves up over the course of a season, let’s hope so!

Best for the 10’s were Clarke, Taylor, Ryan Heffernan and Dillon Carthy in one of the team’s best displays this season so far.

Any hope the 11’s had of league honours this season ended disappointedly after a 3-2 home defeat to Greystones. Late goals by Keith Dalton & Ross Davis put a gloss on the final result in another poor display.

At last the Under 13’s are of the mark after an exciting 4-3 home win over Ardmore Rovers. Stuart Synnott scored a hat trick while new signing Mark Flood also found the net. Best were Synnott, Steven Davis and Hughie McDaid.
