THIS SUMMER proved to be very eventful for young Greystones golfer Paul Dunne.

A plus one handicap golfer from Greystones Golf Club, Paul was selected in April to represent the Irish Under-16 golf team in a developmental international staged at Royal Dublin against Scotland, Wales and Holland.

The Irish team won the event with Paul winning five of his six matches.

After winning the Connaught and Ulster U-15 boys titles in 2007 as well as being the youngest winner of the Wicklow Boys U-18 trophy at only 14 years of age, Paul was then selected for the six man Irish U-18 boys team taking part in the European Boys Team Championships in Slovenia in July of this year.

After a magnificent qualifying round of five under par Paul was then unbeaten for the remainder of the event, in which Ireland finished seventh.

He then represented Ireland on the four person U-16 team at the European Young Masters in Chantilly, France, where Ireland finished second.

In August he was selected for the Irish U18 boys team for the home internationals in Royal County Down where Ireland won for the first time in ten years with a memorable final day victory over the reining champions England. The following week Paul retained the Wicklow Boys U-18 trophy at his home club Greystones and finished off the month with a four-shot victory in the Irish U-18 Boys close championship in Portumna, Galway.

He was then selected to represent Ireland at the Junior Players Championship at the TPC in Sawgrass, Florida and travelled to Scotland for the invitational Duke of York Champions Trophy in Scotland in September.

At the recent Darren Clarke Champions weekend Paul also emerged as winner and was honoured by the Leinster Branch of the G.U.I. with the U-18 order of merit for 2008, presented at the recent AGM of the branch.
