Osborne keeps Carnew’s hopes alive
Carnew 1-10, Tinahely 2-5: Carnew are in touching distance of lifting the League Cup! However, it took a goal by teenager Brian Osborne with the second last kick of the game to give them victory over neighbours Tinahely at Tinahely on Saturday.
DIVISION 1 The Wexford border side are at home to St. Patrick’s in their last game next Sunday and if they win that one they will be level on points with Newtown at the top of the table but a better score difference would give them the cup.
Little separated the sides at any stage but what little was in it Tinahely had it.
Tinahely led by 1-3 to 0-5 at half-time and while they missed some chances in the second-half it did look as if they would hold on for victory.
Then their young midfielder Brian Osborne, who has recently been added to Mick O’Dwyer’s Senior panel struck for the all-important goal to keep their hopes of glory alive.
Carnew are nearing the end of a long hard year in football and hurling but if they could add a Senior League title to the Intermediate championship it would make it all worth while.
