Kids ex­cited at launch of new hockey club

AN EX­CIT­ING NEW Hockey club was launched last Sun­day in Grey­stones.

The long awaited club is open to the town and the sur­round­ing ar­eas and caters for kids from un­der eights to un­der 12s.

Last Sun­day the club held an open morn­ing for all which saw a huge num­ber of peo­ple turn­ing out to visit the fa­cil­i­ties.

To show their sup­port for the new club rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the The Ir­ish Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion were also there for the open­ing. Based in Charles­land Sports and Recre­ation Cen­tre, the new club which is aimed at ju­nior play­ers is now open for mem­ber­ship.

‘This is a re­ally ex­cit­ing time for mem­bers and staff start­ing the new club which is aimed at the ju­nior sec­tion and which aims to in­volve more chil­dren in hockey at a young age and we are de­lighted with the turnout and in­ter­est to­day,’ said Taragh Seaver the club man­ager. The Ir­ish Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion have given their full back­ing and sup­port, for the new club.

With many ex­ist­ing clubs al­ready full and with long wait­ing lists it was time for Grey­stones and the sur­round­ing towns to have its own club.

The club are lucky to have a group of ex­cel­lent coaches on board, of­fer­ing small groups at train­ing ses­sions.

Part of the team, head coach Stephen McGrath, has level 2 coach­ing ac­cred­i­ta­tion and has been coach­ing and play­ing hockey for over 24 years.

Stephen is cur­rently the Ir­ish Un­der-15 boys TID Man­ager/As­sis­tant coach.

As­sis­tant head coach, Stephen O’Keefe, is cur­rently Ir­ish A Goal­keeper, with five years’ coach­ing ex­pe­ri­ence and Ac­cred­ited Goal­keeper coach from the Mer­cian School of Hockey. Phone (087) 8296766.
