Kids excited at launch of new hockey club
AN EXCITING NEW Hockey club was launched last Sunday in Greystones.
The long awaited club is open to the town and the surrounding areas and caters for kids from under eights to under 12s.
Last Sunday the club held an open morning for all which saw a huge number of people turning out to visit the facilities.
To show their support for the new club representatives of the The Irish Hockey Association were also there for the opening. Based in Charlesland Sports and Recreation Centre, the new club which is aimed at junior players is now open for membership.
‘This is a really exciting time for members and staff starting the new club which is aimed at the junior section and which aims to involve more children in hockey at a young age and we are delighted with the turnout and interest today,’ said Taragh Seaver the club manager. The Irish Hockey Association have given their full backing and support, for the new club.
With many existing clubs already full and with long waiting lists it was time for Greystones and the surrounding towns to have its own club.
The club are lucky to have a group of excellent coaches on board, offering small groups at training sessions.
Part of the team, head coach Stephen McGrath, has level 2 coaching accreditation and has been coaching and playing hockey for over 24 years.
Stephen is currently the Irish Under-15 boys TID Manager/Assistant coach.
Assistant head coach, Stephen O’Keefe, is currently Irish A Goalkeeper, with five years’ coaching experience and Accredited Goalkeeper coach from the Mercian School of Hockey. Phone (087) 8296766.
