Alarms for el­derly ap­proved for fund­ing

THE Wick­low Com­mu­nity and Fam­ily Ser­vices Group has been ap­proved for fund­ing for per­sonal alarms for older peo­ple, un­der the Scheme of Com­mu­nity Sup­port for Older Peo­ple.

The scheme aims to im­prove se­cu­rity for older mem­bers of the com­mu­nity and fund­ing is avail­able to­wards the once-off in­stal­la­tion cost of so­cially mon- itored alarm sys­tems, and other small items of phys­i­cal se­cu­rity. The scheme is open through­out the year and applications can be made for fund­ing as the need arises.

The Wick­low Com­mu­nity and Fam­ily Ser­vices Group has been al­lo­cated € 4,397.79 which will en­able to pro­vide the mon­i­tored alarms to vul­ner­a­ble older peo- ple in their own homes, some­thing Cllr. Caro­line Bur­rell said is a ne­ces­sity in to­day’s so­ci­ety.

‘As this Scheme is highly val­ued by those work­ing with older peo­ple in our so­ci­ety, I wel­come this fund­ing and I would en­cour­age all com­mu­nity groups in the County to ap­ply for fund­ing through­out the com­ing year,’ she said.
