‘Annoyed’ about failure to buy houses on time

Bray People - - News -

THE purchase of houses by Bray Town Council was the subject of much consternation at last week’s council meeting, with the news that any allocation not used this year can not be carried to 2009.

Cllr. Bríd Collins raised the issue, asking if the three remaining houses this year were close to being bought. Housing officer Triona Irving said that just one of them is likely to be closed by the end of the year. ‘Hopefully in 2009 we will get approval for 12 houses,’ she said.

‘We should be buying three houses, yet we are only buying one,’ remarked Cllr. Collins. Ms. Irving said that Department policy is that all housing capital monies have to be drawn down by midNovember. She also added that the properties must be good value for money, in the right locations and not subject to major renovations.

‘Since you are such a buddy buddy with the Minister Cathaoirleach, perhaps you could get him to allow those houses to be carried over to next year,’ remarked Cllr. Pat Vance, who said that he is ‘very annoyed.’
