NEWTOWN UNITED FC

With the second team’s game away to Arklow United cancelled due to a frozen pitch and the Youths receiving a walkover from Greystones, only the 1st team saw action.

They travelled to Ashford in the league and came away with all three points after a 5-3 victory. Five players ended up on the score sheet namely, Neilie Martin, Barry Davis, Dean Odlum, Ciaran McGurl, and John Heffernan.

JUNIORS NEWS

When Mr. Frost doesn’t get you the first time, he makes sure he will on the second occasion and this was the reason behind the cancellation of both the Under 11’s and Under 12’s games last weekend as bone hard pitches put paid to any on-field action.

However the 13’s and 8A’s both saw action last Saturday. The 8’s failed to win for the first time this season as they had to settle for a 2-all draw away to Arklow Town. Jack Doyle and Cian Walsh scored the goals and maintained their team’s unbeaten start to the season.

The old saying ‘you wait for a bus for ages and then two arrive at the same time’ applies to the Under 13’s who made it two wins on the bounce with an emphatic 7-2 win over Wolfe Tone. Luke Martin led the way with a double hat-trick while Stuart Synnott added the other goal. Best on the day for the 13’s were, Mark Flood, Steven Davis and Hughie McDaid.

The following are the fixtures for the weekending Sat. 13th/Sun. 14th December: Under 8A’s, 8B’s & 9’s Fixtures to be confirmed. Under 10’s Home to Greystones ‘A’ KO T.B.C. Our first fundraiser of the year will be our annual Christmas draw which will take place on Saturday 13th December in the Mt Kennedy Inn. Tickets are priced at €1 each or a book of 6 for €5. Prizes include various hampers, TV’s and other great prizes.

We are looking for parents etc. to donate prizes for the draw or items for the various hampers. The response we got from everybody last year was brilliant and the same again would be very much appreciated.

All players must have their tickets sold and returned to their respective coaches by Saturday 13th December. Also our annual visit from Santa to the younger members in the club will take place on Saturday 20th December in the Community Centre starting at 3 pm.

Just a note to all parents & players that outstanding membership fees are due and can be paid to their respective team manager or any committee member.
