Bray through to last eight of cup

Bray 2, North Kil­dare 1: Bray ladies sec­onds took on North Kil­dare in the sec­ond round of the cup at home last Satur­day.

Bray got off to a dream start with an early goal in the first minute cre­ated by Wendy Adams and fin­ished by Sinéad Leni­han to give Bray the early lead.

Bray kept up the pres­sure with ex­cel­lent at­tacks up the right hand side of the pitch by Tara Kelly, Lauren Kelly and Eimear Willis who cre­ated fur­ther chances for Bray to in­crease their score.

A quick break by the North Kil­dare for­wards cre­ated a gap in the Bray de­fence which saw them be­ing awarded a short cor­ner near the end of the first-half which they scored to bring the sides equal to 1-1.

An­other at­tack by Bray cre­ated by Clodagh Ni Chearb­haill through to Katie Burgess who sent it into the cir­cle saw Bray be­ing awarded a short cor­ner which found the back of the goal with an ex­cel­lent strike by Lauren Kelly which put Bray in the lead at half-time.

Both sides came out fight­ing in an ex­cit­ing sec­ond-half but Bray re­mained solid through­out. Ex­cel­lent de­fence work by San­dra Doyle and Seon­adh O’Leary kept North Kil­dare from get­ting an equaliser and Bray re­tained their lead through to the fi­nal whis­tle.

That win puts the Bray side through to the quar­ter-fi­nals stages of the cup which will be held in early Jan­uary.

Else­where Bray men’s 1st team, who are cur­rently sit­ting top of Divi­sion 2, drew nill all with Avoca.
