Bray through to last eight of cup
HOCKEY LADIES SECONDS IN LEINSTER CUP ACTION
Bray 2, North Kildare 1: Bray ladies seconds took on North Kildare in the second round of the cup at home last Saturday.
Bray got off to a dream start with an early goal in the first minute created by Wendy Adams and finished by Sinéad Lenihan to give Bray the early lead.
Bray kept up the pressure with excellent attacks up the right hand side of the pitch by Tara Kelly, Lauren Kelly and Eimear Willis who created further chances for Bray to increase their score.
A quick break by the North Kildare forwards created a gap in the Bray defence which saw them being awarded a short corner near the end of the first-half which they scored to bring the sides equal to 1-1.
Another attack by Bray created by Clodagh Ni Chearbhaill through to Katie Burgess who sent it into the circle saw Bray being awarded a short corner which found the back of the goal with an excellent strike by Lauren Kelly which put Bray in the lead at half-time.
Both sides came out fighting in an exciting second-half but Bray remained solid throughout. Excellent defence work by Sandra Doyle and Seonadh O’Leary kept North Kildare from getting an equaliser and Bray retained their lead through to the final whistle.
That win puts the Bray side through to the quarter-finals stages of the cup which will be held in early January.
Elsewhere Bray men’s 1st team, who are currently sitting top of Division 2, drew nill all with Avoca.
