Courage under fire
MINISTER KEEPS HIS HEAD WHILE HAVING GUN POINTED AT HIM IN RAID
BRAY DEPUTY Dick Roche says he was ‘strangely calm’ when a gunman pointed a sawn-off shotgun at him and ordered him to lie down during an armed raid at the five-star Marriott Hotel in Druid’s Glen on Monday.
‘They told me to lie down, but I wouldn’t,’ said the Government minister, still shaken by the incident in which he and several other people were held captive as the gunmen searched for cash and valuables.
‘I was strangely calm, but worried that the gun might go off,’ said Minister Roche.
Gardaí recovered the robbers’ getaway car in Kilcoole yesterday.
