Gardaí may have retrieved getaway car
A VEHICLE believed to be the getaway car used by a gang of raiders who held Minister Roche and staff of the Marriott hostage at the hotel on Monday morning has been found in Kilcoole industrial estate.
Gardaí are examining the car on site and it will undergo a full forensic examination.
They are appealing to people who may have seen the black Volvo driven in to the industrial estate, and the driver and passengers transfer to a grey or silver Golf.
Superintendent Michael Lernihan also appealed to people with CCTV in the area to have another look at their tapes at around 10 a.m. on Monday morning.
‘The car would also have to have been placed there before the incident took place,’ said Supt. Lernihan. He said that there are three directions the car could have taken, namely back to the scene of the crime, towards Kilcoole Village or towards Newcastle.
‘Even the smallest detail that you might not think significant could be hugely helpful to the investigation,’ said Garda Declan Lynch. Gardaí can be contacted in relation to the hold-up on (01) 6665300.
