Sandbags ‘won’t stop flooding’

Bray People - - News -

IT THE opinion of some of the Town Council members last week that in the event of another flooding at Little Bray sandbags just would not be up to the job.

Councillor John Brady proposed that as an interim measure before the elusive river protection scheme is built, the residents of Little Bray should be provided with floodgates as oppose to sandbags.

‘Sandbags are not the best thing especially for the many elderly and disabled residents of Little Bray,’ explained Cllr Brady, ‘The floodgates could just be stored under the stairs and then installed in a matter of seconds if there is a threat of flood.’ Councillor Anne Egan agreed. The Town Clerk, Christine Flood confirmed that Bray Town Council support the motion of providing floodgates as an interim measure.

‘We will contact the OPW or Department of the Environment to partly fund the scheme which would be used as an interim measure until the river protection scheme comes in.’
