WICKLOW Mental Support are backing a new programme presenting people with positive aspects to their lives in order to prevent suicide.

Caroline McGuigan is the CEO of the Eden Programme and was the recipient of the Social Entrepreneur of the Year award last year. Suicide or Survive (SOS) established the programme to provide a safe space for those who have attempted suicide or had suicidal thoughts.

Weekly support groups meet up over a six-month period where between eight and 10 participants become more aware of their own mental health states and can develop independence in terms of confidence and communication skills.

Caroline went through her own struggles in life, but turned things around when she realised how much her family and friends meant to her.

The programme helps participants to make the right choices, particularly during times of emotional crisis, thus increasing suicide awareness and reducing the risk of participants committing suicide. For more on the Eden Programme contact Eileen/Kathleen on (0402) 41487.
