Knife was hidden in underwear
AN ARKLOW MAN who concealed a knife in his underwear in public has been sentenced to six months in prison.
Dermot Travers (20) from 4 Wicklow Terrace was charged with possession of the knife at Main Street, Arklow on July 4, 2008.
Garda Keith Blythe told the court that the article was found in the course of a search after the defendant’s arrest.
Mr. O’Donovan for Travers told the court that his client was intoxicated on the night and has very little recollection of events.
He added that this is the longest period in many years during which Travers has kept out of trouble.
He has 54 previous convictions. Judge Murrough Connellan said that he cannot ignore 54 previous convictions which include trespassing with a knife.
He added that the knife was not concealed in the defendant’s underwear for any reasonable purpose and said the public has to know that this behaviour is unacceptable.
