Bray People - - News Focus -

A MAJOR report on suicide amongst members of the Traveller Community was launched at the Wicklow County Campus yesterday (Tuesday December 9).

The report, the first such research, docu- ments the incidence of suicide amongst Travellers between the years 2000-2006. It is unique in that it covers the whole Traveller population over a seven year period with information gathered on family circum- stances and underlying issues in suicide cases.

The publication was funded by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform’s 2008 Traveller Interagency and Communica- tions Fund administered by Pobal. Mary Rose Walker, a social worker with Wicklow County Council, wrote the report and the launch was hosted by the Wicklow Interagency Group.
