Talented kids showcase art
THE STUDENTS and teachers at Sacred Heart National School, Aughrim were not found lacking in enthusiasm this week when they staged a special fundraising art exhibition.
The excitement was palpable at the school on Wednesday as these young budding artists saw their very own works unveiled to the public on official display.
Celebrated artist Eoin O’Connor officially opened the magnificent show which drew spectators from across the region.
Eoin generously donated a limited edition print for auction which further helped with the fundraising.
‘The exhibition is absolutely brilliant. I have had a good look at the pictures and am very impressed with the fabulous ideas and use of colour. I have attended many exhibitions in my time and this one ranks up with the best,’ he commented.
Every pupil had at least one framed painting on display in the school hall and the overall effect of 311 colourful pictures on display stands was magical and bore testimony to the creativity and imagination of the children.
All framed pictures on show were available to purchase by the families of each artist and were in keen demand with Christmas just around the corner.
A grand total in excess of €1,700 was gathered and will pay for painting games on the schoolyard and will outline the basketball court.
According to Principal Bríd Owens the event was a wonderful one for all involved.
‘The buzz in the school all day was memorable. The pride and joy on the children’s faces when they saw their framed picture on display was pleasure to experience,’ she said.
Ms. Owens thanked the staff for helping the children produce the pictures and also thanked ‘Images’ who specialise in staging school art exhibitions.
Some of the gifted Sacred Heart artists proudly display their work.
