Gardaí praised for raid response

CLLR. KATHLEEN KELLEHER has thanked Gardaí for their quick response to the recent robbery at the Marriott Druids Glen Hotel, during which Minister Dick Roche and eight other people were held at gun point.

‘I would appeal to anyone who can help with the investigation to contact the gardaí as soon as possible,’ said Cllr. Kelleher, who is chair of the Co. Wicklow Joint Policing Committee. ‘Ever a small piece of information can be useful.’

Cllr. Kelleher said that the used of technology, particularly texting, could help alert the general public when a serious crime has been committed.

‘For example, people could sign up and then receive texts asking them to watch out for particular activity,’ she said. ‘If such a system had been in operation last Monday, people could have been alerted as to the type of car that was used and perhaps someone might have noticed when the car was abandoned and what kind of car had been waiting in situ for the transfer. The general public could have kept a watch for the car.’

She said that it is very distressing when ordinary people going about their work or daily lives are caught up in criminal activity.

Cllr. Kelleher intends to table a motion about the use of technology, which could also include road reports and weather alerts.
