Shane ‘Byrnes’ up the ice for charity

Bray People - - Bray People -

ONCE one of the shining stars of Irish and International rugby, Aughrim man Shane Byrne took a more delicate but just as skilful approach to his latest challenge.

Selected as one of four celebrities to compete as part of the Late Late Show Celebs on Ice, Shane took to the challenge with gusto for his chosen charity Special Olympics.

With an automatic pledge of € 15,000 from show sponsors, Shane managed to double the figure by out-skating socialite Lisa Murphy, Green Party politician Patricia McKenna and TV presenter Brian Ormonde during the live show on Friday night.

Following a week of intensive practicing and rehearsing Shane soon picked up the skill and even showed a natural flair for it.

Having never stepped onto the ice before, Shane was the group novice but soon overtook his opponents to take this year’s Celebs on Ice title.

Of course, with a brand new ice rink on his doorstep in Arklow he was ahead of the game!

Shane Byrne.
