Two men fined for drugs possession
A 21-YEAR-OLD Gorey man was fined €350 at Bray District Court for the unlawful possession of drugs. Judge Murrough Connellan fined another young Gorey man €100 for the same offence, warning him to ‘get off the maintenance’.
Garda Linda Riordan said that on November 24 last year she was called to the Kilmacanogue area where a car was parked with three males on board, asleep or passed out. She said that there was evidence of heroin use in the vehicle.
Kevin Doyle, Tomnahealy, Castletown, Gorey, was ‘in an awful state’, when gardaí found him in a car with George Kavanagh, also from Tomnahealy, at Kilfenora Lane, Kil- macanogue, the Court heard.
‘My client is a serial heroin user now on the waiting list for a methadone programme,’ said Doyle’s solicitor Conway O’Hara.
He added that Doyle admitted the drugs found on him were for his own use. The father of one came to court with his mother. ‘That’s the reason he made it to court today,’ said Mr. O’Hara.
Judge Connellan fined Doyle €350.
The Court heard that Kavanagh has two children, including a month-old baby, his solicitor Joe Maguire said that his client has been clean for 12 months but is still on methadone. He was fined €100.
