NEWTOWN UNITED FC
The league will resume on Sunday 11th January 2009.
The club are holding a 50/50 draw on the 26th December in the Mount Kennedy Inn (music on the night by The Scene).
Everyone at Newtown United wish all their members and supporters a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
Well it was Christmas joy this week for our 8A’s and 11’s but unfortunately Christmas woe for the 10’s, 12’s and 13’s.
The 8’s won a tough encounter away to Greystones on a 2-1 scoreline thanks to goals from Conor O’Toole-Odlum and Cian Walsh.
The 11’s defeated Wicklow Rovers 1nil at home in very blustery conditions. Robert Greenan scored the all important winner just before half time and Ross Davis, Darren Walsh and Sean Carthy were the best players on the day.
The 10’s lost 6-1 at home to under 10 premier champions Arklow Town in a game that sadly some of our players never performed. Sophie Gallagher, Ryan Clarke and Sean Carthy all tried hard and Hollie Murphy scored the Newtown consolation goal.
The 12’s lost 4-1 at home to Arklow united in a game where if our guys had taken their chances, the scoreline would have been a lot closer. Keith Dal- ton scored the Newtown goal after good work from Robert Gregory. Best on the day were Chantelle Owens, Jodie Ryan, Mark O’Brien and Darragh Carthy.
Bad day at the office for the 13’s as they went down 5-nil away to Ardmore Rovers. That’s it for 2008 a year full of highs and lows, and lots and lots of good memories and let’s hope for more of the same in 2009.

Newtown bowling club are taking a well earned break for Christmas after a very busy season. The B team had seven matches each and the A team played four matches.
The in-house league was also on the go, and everyone was swotting up for the quiz. The harriers were the winners with the falcons just three points behind. Spouses and partners were invited to take part.
There was one cookoo in the nest Pat Smith, Margaret’s husband, and there were three swans, Mary Brendan’s wife and Sharon Jim Clarke’s wife and Linda Walsh, Noel’s wife.
The turkey shoot went well from over twenty players taking part the two in the final were K.Ledwidge and John Redmond. After seven ends K. Ledwidge won (there were no actual turkeys harmed in this turkey shoot).
The Christmas dinner in Capo’s restaurant was well handled and it was a very enjoyable night, so many thanks to the staff there.
