Bray duo in Futsal action

SOME OF Bray Wanderers’ stars of tomorrow have been putting their skills on show this week with the Republic of Ireland Futsal squad who were in Loughborough University, England, continuing with their preparations for the UEFA Futsal Championship qualifiers in February.

On Friday, the team featuring Seagulls duo Shane O’Neill and Dane Massey took on an England side that has experienced over sixty senior international Futsal games with varying degrees of success. And they got their week off to a fantastic start with a 3-3 draw against our overseas neighbours on Friday. Ireland went 1-0 down but came back to lead 2-1 at the half time whistle with two goals from our very own Dane Massey. England came back strong in the second half scoring two goals but the Irish responded with a goal from Alan Lynch.

On Saturday then, Ireland took on a strong Libya team who has just returned from a relatively successful FIFA World Cup campaign in Brazil where they ran World Champions Spain very close. Ireland matched and outplayed them for periods of the game but basic errors gave away three goals within a five minute period. Luck was not on the Irish team’s side as they hit the post in the first half and dominated play for long spells throughout but were unfortunate not to score.
