Murray on the mark for Irish schools
ARKLOW Town’s Shane Murray sprang from the bench this week to save the Republic of Ireland U-18 Schools team in their match against New Zealand.
Murray entered the fray with 67 minutes gone in the match and then with just ten minutes remaining, the young stalwart tripped inside the area by a New Zealand defender following a through-ball from Ireland captain Jason Hughes. Murray then dusted himself down before calmly converting the spot kick, sending the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
This put the wind into the Irish sails and they took the lead then in the 87th minute. ‘The Boys in Green’ couldn’t hang on however, and the men from down under equalised with seconds remaining.
