200 to take part in Bray Sea Swim
TOMORROW morning will herald the 25th anniversary of the legendary Bray Sea Swim, with organisers hoping to raise a massive €25,000 for local charities.
More than 200 swimmers have signed up to ‘take the plunge’ in the chilly Irish Sea at Bray Seafront and many of those brave souls are planning to take part in fancy dress.
Cancer Support groups in Bray and Greystones as well as Bray Lions Senior Citizens Fund will be the beneficiaries of the 2009 Bray Sea Swim which will commence at 12 noon at the Southern end of Bray Seafront. Since 1984 hundreds of brave swimmers have been prepared to swim at Bray and in the process they have raised €209, 120 for a large number of local charities. This year the organisers are confident that they will mark the quarter century of the event by raising a record sum and exceeding the €20, 120 raised in last year’s seasonal splash.
‘We look forward to seeing a huge turnout of local people on the seafront to cheer on the swimmers,’ said John McEvoy of Bray Lions Club.
Volunteers can still make an eleventh hour decision to take part in the New Year dip and help this year’s nominated charities. For a swim card contact Joe Codyre on (086) 8561888.
