WICKLOW GARDAÍ had to bring Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer into custody in the early hours of Christmas Day for his own safety.

The vandals said Baa, Humbug to the whole notion of Christmas Spirit by trying to remove one of the decorative reindeer brightening up Fitzwilliam Square during the festive season. However eagle eyed Gardaí noticed what they were up to and confiscated the deer, bringing him to Wicklow Garda Station where he spent the rest of his Christmas well looked after.

Rudolph, complete with red nose, was one of two reindeer placed in a mock snow covered Fitzwilliam Square as part of the annual Christmas lights and decorations organised by the Wicklow and District Chamber of Commerce.

The vandals managed to disconnect the reindeer, but he was still fully intact when the Gardaí intercepted his possible kidnapping.
