Fianna Fáil hopefuls wait to find out election line up
THE FIANNA FAIL candidates hoping for nominations to run for Wicklow Town Council and the East Wicklow County Council Electoral Constituency now look unlikely to find out who is on the party ticket until well after the New Year.
The interview process has already taken place at the Glenview Hotel in November and it was believed that party headquarters would make a deci- sion before Christmas. However, things still remain up in the air.
The potential candidates in the East Wicklow Electoral constituency are Cllr. Pat Casey, Gail Dunne, Mick O’Hagan, Jane Dignam and Luke Rickard. As Casey is already a sitting county councillor, it’s fairly certain that he will be selected.
Hoping to fight it out for a place on the town council are Cllr. Denis Teevan, Gail Dunne, Lance O’Brien, Ken Lauder and Harry Reburn.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Bob Kearns has announced that he will definitely run again at the next upcoming local elections.
The independent councillor has sat on Wicklow Town Council for the past 23 years having won a seat at his first time of asking.
At the last election he successfully kept his town council seat but was unsuccessful with a bid for a place on Wicklow County Council.
While he readily accepts ‘It doesn’t seem like 23 years’ Cllr. Kearns remains adamant that he intends to serve even longer if successful in the elections, which it is believed will take place in June of 2009.
