Hounds are top dogs in charity game
RUGBY ANNUAL HOUND DOGS RUGBY MATCH AT RATHDRUM R.F.C.
WELL FIRSTLY let me thank everyone involved this year in the Annual Hound Dogs rugby game at Rathdrum RFC on St. Stephen’s Day.
It was an absolutely fabulous day for everyone and nearly €1,000 was raised for cancer support in Co. Wicklow, thanks to donations from players and supporters alike. This is an extremely worthy cause and we are delighted to be of assistance in even this small way!
The game was won by the Hound Dogs after a last minute intercept try by Hound Dogs newbie (and former Rathdrum oldie) Jason Morton. It was a cracking game throughout with both sides playing with the traditional gusto that is expected at Hound Dogs fixtures.
As always, the Hound Dogs was made up of a vast mixture of rugby talent from Co. Wicklow and much further abroad. Eoin O’Toole and Des Alvey maybe travelled the furthest coming from Los Angeles and Vancouver respectively. Hound Dogs captain and former Arklow player, Anto O’Donnell also arrived from the UK, where he is plying his rugby trade with English Division 1 side Rotherham.
Rathdrum auld boys Jason Moreton and Jason Blythe also donned the Hound Dogs jersey for the first but certainly not the last time. A big thank you should also go out to Eamon Healy who put in a huge amount of effort pulling everything together!!
The day also marked the launch of Rathdrum RFC’s newest fundraising initiative known as the Ivy Leaf Club. The Ivy Leaf Club will consist of 400 members, each paying a monthly subscription of €15 (via standing order).
Members will automatically be entered into a monthly cash draw worth from €250 – €7,500. The total annual prize money will depend on the number of members in the Ivy Leaf Club at any given time but based on full membership for the entire year the total annual prize money will amount to €26,000.
A significant proportion of the funds received will be allocated to prize money and the remainder of funds will go to the continued development of the Ivy Leaf grounds and the participating clubs.
The recent success of all the club’s using the Ivy Leaf grounds has led to the increased usage of the Ivy Leaf facilities and this has had the knock on effect of increasing the cost of running each club, as well as trying to maintain and improve the facilities on offer at the Ivy Leaf. We believe that The Ivy Leaf Club will help to ensure the future is bright for all the clubs using the Ivy Leaf.
The Ivy Leaf Club draws will commence in January 2009 and will be monthly thereafter. To receive a standing order form simply contact RRFC PRO Sam Buck at 0868502169 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
