Passenger shatters taxi driver’s windscreen

Bray People - - News Focus -

A TAXI DRIVER had his windscreen shattered by an out of control passenger whom he had brought from Bray to Ballybrack in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The youth was picked up at Glenlucan on the Killarney Road and asked to be driven to Ballybrack. The driver made his way to Loughlinstown Park where the passenger said he did not have enough money to pay.

He said he would go in to the house for money but refused to leave anything in the car for security such as his mobile phone or wallet.

‘I suspected that we were not actually at his house as he had changed his mind as we pulled up outside a first house,’ said the taxi man. The young man opened the door, said the driver, and tried to get out. ‘ I restrained him and tried to drive away with him to the garda station. He kept pulling the car out of gear and pulling the handbrake. He then punched the windscreen and shattered it.’

Gardai were called to the scene and the youth was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. ‘This is just another example of the threat under which drivers find themselves nowadays,’ said the taxi driver.
