Number plate recognition car
MOTORISTS driving without tax or insurance beware you will be caught.
Superintendant Mick Lernihan said last week that the gardaí in North Wicklow had added a patrol car with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to their fleet.
‘It is a fantastic piece of equipment. It scans the number plate of a car from either the front or the back and can tell you if the car is taxed, insured or if it is stolen. It is very good for crime prevention.’
He said that the ANPR would save gardaí a lot of time as instead of having to stop every car to check tax and insurance the technology in the new garda car would do it for them.
