Free guide for dementia carers
BRAY’S ‘Home Instead’ Senior Care has issued a free guide for carers of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
‘There are forgotten heroes of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory related conditions,’ said Seamus Murphy, Director of the Wicklow branch of Home Instead.
‘They are the family caregivers who work each day looking after loved ones who are no longer able to care for themselves.’
Seamus said that stress is a constant for those people.
‘When they eventually burn out, emotionally or physically, the lives of those they are caring for often follow suit,’ he said that while there are outreach efforts to target the sufferers of dementia, caregivers may still feel isolated and overwhelmed by their responsibilities.
The new information guide explains some of the basic facts about the different forms of the condition, looks at practical ways of dealing with some of the most common issues associated with the disease.
