Big reduction in binmen’s overtime causing concern

Bray People - - Council Report -

GREYSTONES could become much dirtier at the weekends after news that overtime for bin collectors has been slashed.

Cllr. Derek Mitchell said he was very concerned that the public bins were not going to be emptied on a Saturday because of cuts in overtime.

‘We did well in the IBAL league and I am now concerned there is no overtime. I realise there is major budget concerns needing cutbacks but I am concerned about this.’

Town manager Seán Quirke said there need- ed to be a three per cent reduction in payroll and every department within the council needed to come in under budget. Everyone is hold onto their staff and reduce overtime. Overtime has been stopped until April and it will be reviewed then. If the budget is cut something has to go and we are looking at every line of expense in Wicklow County Council at the moment to see what we are doing badly and there is no doubt we are doing some things inefficiently. We are at the start of that process at the moment and every director of services is finding it difficult.’
