JUST five years since his wedding to Joan DelaneyMcMahon, Pearse McMahon celebrated his 75th birthday in the Martello last Friday night.

Over 70 people surprised, including his devoted wife Joan, were there to surprise Pearse – who had been told he was attending an event for their friend Senator Deirdre de Burca.

The pair, who had known each other for many years, met in Dublin when he was foreman on the Temple Bar Hotel. Pearse is from Tyrone and now lives with his wife in Lauderdale.

His brother Malachy and son Eugene, his partner AnneMarie and their good friend Barney travelled to the party, as did Joan’s brother Brian, sister-in-law Pat and niece Clare.

The couple even went to the Koo afterwards with Joan’s niece, where the younger people gave them an enthusiastic welcome. ‘It was a beautiful night and the music was brilliant!’

Joan said that the two of them had a great night and have both had a wonderful five years. ‘They mistook us for the grandparents of the couple when we went to make enquiries at a hotel before our wedding!’ She added, with a laugh, adding that she and Pearse are total opposites.

Joan is very involved within her community, while Pearse is a keen golfer and looking forward to a forthcoming golfing holiday to Seville.
