Doyle signs for Seagulls
THERE has been a new face at the Carlisle Grounds this week, but unfortunately there are also some old ones missing, writes Daniel Gorman.
Bray Wanderers this week confirmed the signing of Daire Doyle from Longford Town but he won’t get the opportunity to play with Gavin Whelan, Gary Cronin or Alan Cawley who have all left the club.
The 28-year-old began his career with Cherry Orchard before making the move to England to join Coventry City in 2000 as an apprentice. The following year he joined Kidderminster Harriers for a two year spell, playing for the club 27 times in that period and finding the net twice.
Doyle also enjoyed spells at Nuneaton Borough, Moor Green, Red- ditch United and Bromsgrove Rovers before returning to Ireland in 2007 and deciding to play his football at Flancare Park.
The midfielder made 56 league appearances for Longford, notching twice and will now ply his trade at the Carlisle Grounds.
Alan Cawley has decided to join St. Pat’s, while Cronin and Whelan also parted ways with the Wicklow club.
n Bray Wanderers have confirmed two more pre-season friendlies. The Seagulls will take on Monaghan United this Saturday at Wayside Celtic’s ground in Kilternan, with a 2 p.m. kick-off.
Then on Monday, February 23, they will take on their recently relegated rivals UCD at the Belfield Bowl with a kick-off time of 7.45 p.m.
