PRESENTATION DINNER DANCE

The Arklow Bay Hotel was the venue for our annual get together, where a large well dressed crowd gathered for a celebration of the clubs achievements from the year gone by. The night was a huge success by all accounts. Our top table was comprised of familiar faces from the committee plus a few invited quests. Mick Hagan was present on behalf of the County Board and spoke highly of Carnew’s contribution to the Wicklow cause in club and county commitments. Both sides of our religious community were represented by Fr Martin Casey and Cannon Arthur Minion. Canon Minion is new to this area and came from a hurling stronghold of Shinrone in Offaly. Our guest of honour was no other than Mr Brian Cody from Kilkenny. He presented the medals to our four winning teams and spoke to the gathered about the importance of a strong club in a local community. It was easy to see from his words why he commands such respect in Kilkenny and beyond. It was great for the club to have such a leading light in the GAA present at our big night. The committee would like to thank everyone for turning up and making it a fun night.

COUNTY AWARDS

Two players were recognised at the County Awards for their contribution to Carnew through the previous year. Don Hyland received ’club hurler of the year’ and Timothy J Hennesey was the recipient of ’Minor hurler of the year’. Both players are at different stages of their careers and will play a big part in the coming year for club or county.

TRAINING CAMP

A good start is essential to get momentum going. A spring training camp in Marbella, Spain was a topic of discussion in the residents bar on Saturday night. Contact Graham Keogh for further details.
