The Annual General meeting of Bray Emmets, which was held on Friday last was a very well attended event with all the business carried out very efficiently. Among the key points was the report of each team’s for the past year. Bray Emmets has some 25 teams in mens and ladies hurling, football and camogie. This is a very big operation with over 400 players involved and the large number of Team managers and mentors - all volunteers. As well as fielding teams the club had a lot of success during the year, winning the Minor and Under-16 Hurling and Football County Championship and the Ladies Senior League. Congratulations and a big thank-you to all the volunteer managers, mentors and all who helped to run the club during the year.

The new Management Committee for 2009 is Gerard Murphy (Chair), Liam McGraynor (Vice-Chair), Frances Stephenson (Secretary), Dermot O’Brien (Treasurer), Anne Longmore (Communications), Denis McCague (Development), Paul Cunningham (Coaching and Games Development), Linda Wogan (Registrar), Vincent Duffy (Bord na nOg), Tom Walsh (Adult Games). Well done to all and best wishes for 2009.

Tom Walsh and Jackie Napier were nominated as Honorary Presidents in recognition of their life-long contribution to Bray Emmets. These nominations were very well received at the meeting and all present felt that both Tom and Jackie had well earned the honour as they had worked tirelessly for several decades, including through some very difficult periods. It is thanks to people like Tom and Jackie that Bray Emmets is so vibrant today. A very big congratulations to both and we look forward to their continuing work for the club in the future.

The Senior team had their first match of the year in a challenge match against Skerries last Sunday morning. On a bitterly cold morning both teams played fast flowing football. Fouling was kept to a minimum; there were some great scores and some very near misses on both sides.

Both teams took time to settle and it was ten minutes before Niall Gaffney opened the scoring for Bray with a well-taken free. Bray, with the wind to their backs raced into a six-point lead with points from Niall McGraynor, John O’Keeffe and Gaffo 0-2. Skerries responded with a well taken goal having stretched Bray’s defence but Stephen Fox replied, almost immediately from the kick-out, with a pile driver to the roof of the net. Skerries scored another point to leave the score-line at half-time Bray Emmets 16 Skerries 1-1 .

In the second-half, playing against the breeze, Bray closed down the hatches and made life very difficult for the Skerries’ players. The work rate and support play was excellent and the tackling was hard and decisive. The defenders got the measure of their opponents and were first to any breaking ball. The forwards moved the ball easily around the field always looking for the support runners darting forward.

Again when the ball was moved at pace the Skerries’ defence was opened up and Ray Lambe and Maurice Doyle scored two wonderful goals .Further points from Niall Gaffney 0-2 Brian O Keeffe and Niall McGraynor left the final score line Bray Emmets 3-10, Skerries 2-3.

This was a good all -round team performance and a just reward for the hard slog being put in by the players at training. Tús maith leath na hoibre! Academy news This week the weather got the better of our outdoor activites. However the indoor activities continue to grow from strength to strength. Our thanks as always to the coaches who give their time and without whom we would not suceed.
