IF COMMITMENT counts any points towards the County Championship, the Wicklow U-16 girls will definitely get the top spot. The weather was very bad towards the weekend and last minute changes were made to move the trials from Ashford to Arklow.

Despite the late change and continuous bad weather, 34 girls from all over the county turned up and a further few were not able to attend due to other commitments. The organisers wish to thank Arklow Geraldines for making their pitch available at the last minute.

The players and management are hoping to build on their county suc- cess as the group will contain a number of players that won the U-14 AllIreland ‘ B’ championship in 2007.

The selectors were pleasantly surprised with the new talent that showed up on the day and look forward to work with a group of talented young players.

The pitch conditions did not allow for much playing time and the team management are planning further training sessions on February 15, March 1 and March 7 before taking on Kildare for the first match on the 14th of March. The players and respective clubs will be informed of the venues for training.
