A HUGE con­grat­u­la­tions to Karen Walsh of Donard/Glen Camogie Club and mem­ber of the Donard/Glen Se­nior camogie team, who was cho­sen as camogie player of the year in the Gar­den County GAA Sports Star Awards 2008.

She was pre­sented her award on Satur­day, Jan­uary 24, in Ark­low Bay Ho­tel, con­fer­ence and leisure cen­tre.

Karen has been play­ing camogie for many years now, at first with her na­tive Dunlavin and in most re­cent years with Donard/Glen Camogie club.

Since join­ing Donard/Glen, she has won one In­ter­me­di­ate cham­pi­onship and two Se­nior cham­pi­onships.

Last year was the club’s most suc­cess­ful year to date, winning the Se­nior cham­pi­onship, shield and league.

Karen also played for the county last year, and is hop­ing that the county team will go even fur­ther this year.

Karen, along with her team-mates in Donard/Glen are cur­rently un­der­tak­ing a new chal­lenge; to de­velop the un­der­age teams in the club and she urges any­one in the area with young girls to come and join the fun on Satur­day morn­ings.

The first get-to­gether was held on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 1, in Glen­malure and was a great suc­cess.

The next train­ing ses­sion will com­mence on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 8, in Glen­malure. All play­ers must be in at­ten­dance at 10.45 a.m. with train­ing beginning at 11 a.m. sharp. Play­ers are re­quested to bring in­door and out­door gear.

U-14 county camogie train­ing will take place on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 15. All se­lected to play will be no­ti­fied through their club.
