GARDAÍ IN Arklow are investigating the circumstances surrounding a van break-in in which thousands of Euro worth of equipment was stolen.

The incident is reported to have occurred within The Maples estate around midnight on Thursday while the vehicle owner was asleep inside his home. The thieves gained entry to the van which was parked on the road and removed valuable goods used within the security industry.

‘ We have CCTV at our house but the van was parked on the road so we are unsure of how many people were involved. Between the dam- age done to my van and the value of the equipment stolen I estimate I am at the loss of € 3,000,’ said the owner. The victim has issued a stark warning to others in the area that may be at risk from the same type of crime.

‘I am aware that this happened in other areas of town recently and appeal to the public to be very careful. This was a well planned robbery and they knew exactly what they were doing.’

It is believed the goods may have been stolen to be sold on at markets so members of the public who are approached with a view to buying such goods are asked to inform Gardaí immediately.
